The Role Of Alumni In Influencing Reconnecting With Alma Mater

UUM ONLINE: 20 February - The role of university alumni in making close connections with alumni outside the campus would indeed influence them to reconnect with their alma mater.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said that alumni who were influential and successful were important resources for the university in various aspects.

According to him, they would not only contribute financially, in fact their role would help the university become valuable resources by providing the university with good image.

"In the context of the University, alumni are important force or an important segment of the stakeholders.

"They ensure UUM's reputation is at the highest position and is at the forefront in defending the University's name," he said.

He said being aware of the importance of the role of alumni to the university, therefore the Alumni Centre was established with a total of 129,162 members and 847 of them were employed in UUM.

According to him, to further reinforce this sentiment, UUM alumni need to awaken the sense of belonging and sense of pride amongst the circle of students once again so that when they graduate from their studies, the attachment to the university would become strong.

The Vice-Chancellor said this during the Alumni Engagement Ceremony: Hi-tea with the Vice-Chancellor at EDC Hotels & Resorts, this evening.

He further reiterated that alumni of the University were expected to become involved in the programmes organised by the University and help to disseminate useful information including UUM's latest development to alumni outside the campus.

In another development, the Vice-Chancellor also launched the 1 Alumni MYR10 Campaign as one of the products to help the University finance the annual expenditure for activities related to academic and physical development.

The Alumni Centre targeted a collection of MYR1 million as direct contributions which would also be used for the Alumni CARE Programme to help the needy which included students, local communities and alumni.
