UUM ONLINE: Kuala Lumpur, 2 November - "We should turn this workshop into a platform to plan the strategies to stay ahead of the game and remain competitive among local and international universities," said the Chairman of the University Board of Directors (LPU), Prof. Dato’ Dr. Sudin Haron during the UUM Strategic Planning Workshop held at the EDC Hotel, yesterday.
The three-day workshop presented the best avenue for all members of the LPU to share their viewpoint and perspectives on the latest achievements of UUM and also to put forward suggestions to further develop the university.
"This workshop carries great consequence because the ideas and suggestions from the members of LPU will be transformed into the framework for the short-term and long-term strategic plans.
"We are familiar with Phase 1 and 2 of UUM Strategic Plans and we have witnessed the steady ascend of the university’s position in Asia and the world, but the values and contributions to the community should not be overlooked," he said.
Prof. Dato’ Dr. Sudin expressed his hope that the members of the LPU will come out with a straightforward, clear-cut and solid plan that will bring positive impact to the performance of the university.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said the workshop was held to assist UUM in developing the agenda for the strategic plan that will bring UUM to greater heights as the Eminent Management University.
Since the agenda of UUM Strategic Plan was created in 2011, UUM has made steady progress. Nevertheless, a number of important aspects need to be improved. We are still far behind in areas such as publication and citation, the university’s reputation among academicians and also among employers.
"For that reason, I hope all participants in this workshop can share some ideas that will help us to draw a strategic plan that upholds the considerable importance of KNOWLEDGE VIRTUE SERVICE" he added.
The Vice-Chancellor also pointed out the importance of humanising education and also community engagement efforts.
