Dr. Mohamad Sabri Sinal @ Zainal, Senior Lecturer from the School of Computing was chosen as the recipient of the Academic Excellence Award after he managed to finish his PhD in time and thus was entitled to receive RM10,000 in cash.

“I would like to convey my gratitude for having completed my doctorate studies in less than 3 years at the Shibaura Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan for bringing glory to UUM’s name by being named as the best overall student and winning the Best PhD Thesis Award during the graduation ceremony in Japan.
“I may not be an excellent student at school before continuing my Diploma studies, but I hold dear to the principle that anything can be changed with hard work and it shows with my recent successes,” he shared.

He considered HIMPU to be one of the university’s best platforms for appreciating the work of staff in successfully carrying out the university’s agenda with a high degree of achievent, in addition to proving itself as a mechanism for reducing the perceived gap between academic staff and administration staff from all perspectives.

“This award sends a clear message that by itself indicates success and serves as a benchmark for maintaining our success based on achievement and performance,” stated the Deputy Director of UUM Corporate Planning Unit.

He was also offered the opportunity to continue his studies for two years at post-doctorate level, performing research in data analytics and forecasting.

He stated that he faced various challenges throughout his studies and stated his desire for more staff members to grab opportunities with their full passion and effort instead of dismissing them.

"Think of all opportunities as merely one-time chances and do not waste them unnecessarily. Do more than what is asked of you and if you’re unwilling to sacrifice, do not talk about struggles,” he shared further.

For Muhammad Iskandar Zulkarnain Muhammad Suhaimi, a recipient of the Excellent Service Awards, he believed that throughout his 26 years as a serving staff member, a sense of belonging to the university and sincerity in performing duties help to foster a culture of excellence within staff members.
