STRATEGIC PLAN IS THE KEY FOR UUM EXCELLENCE

UUM ONLINE: Penang - To ensure that the important agenda of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) can be accomplished through promoting advancement and excellence, the 2023 Strategic Plan and Budget Strengthening Workshop was held for three days at the Hompton Beach Hotel, Penang recently.

Vice -Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah said, this workshop aimed at reviewing all Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and Performance Indicators (PI) in addition to the budget for each indicator that has been set.

"The strategic plan is the organization's top priority, and regardless of how big or little the organisation is, we are leaders who should use our position to the fullest when given the chance and space to do so, he said.” He also cautioned those in authority not to exploit their positions for personal benefit.

"UUM needs to adapt so that we can be at a higher level in the upcoming year. We must put up a lot of effort because if we remain content with where we are, we will not advance,” he added when officiating the workshop.

He further explained that the UUM Strategic Plan includes the entire agenda comprising the university, national, and international levels. In other words, the UUM Strategic Plan is a comprehensive report prepared to ensure that achievements can be realized.

“When we developed the  first phase UUM Strategic Plan for 2011-2015, our target  was to strengthen UUM's capabilities at the national level. However, we had managed to improve our position in Asia, and we are now in positioned 193rd.

"We gather here with great expectations that the UUM Strategic Plan can be fully achieved, in addition to ensuring that each indicator can be translated into the form of the outcome that has been set," he said.

Additionally, he expressed his gratitude to all parties who have given their all by combining their sweats and tears and exerting extra effort to make sure that the strategic agenda could be developed and carried out.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Vice-Chancellor of UUM College of Arts and Sciences, who is also the Director of the Corporate Planning Division, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mazni Omar said, the first phase of UUM Strategic Plan started from 2011-2015, followed by 2016-2020 for the second phase, and is now in the third phase (2021-2025).

According to her, at the beginning of the second phase of the Strategic Plan, UUM was successfully listed in the QS World University Rankings, and  it continues to strengthen its position at the world level until today. "We are now in the third phase, it is important for us to ensure that the targets set in the UUM strategic plan can be met in order to ensure that the important agenda of the university can be achieved," she said.

This execution of the workshop complies with the review requirements for each core in the strategic plan as well as the review of the budget requirements for each indicator to determine the overall budget for the university level.
