UUM IS THE CHOICE OF 171 NEW STUDENTS TO PURSUE THEIR ACADEMIC PURSUITS

UUM ONLINE: A total of 171 new students have chosen Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) as the institution of higher education to pursue their academic pursuits for the second semester, 2022/2023 academic session.

All students were physically admitted to UUM on 28 March. They are open channel candidates who completed the Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM)/its equivalent and will pursue 20 to 22 offered study programmes.

Prof. Dr Shahimi Mohtar, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) who is performing the duties of Vice-Chancellor, commended all the students who have chosen UUM to continue their higher education.

Prof. Dr Shahimi hopes that students will be physically and mentally strong throughout their studies at UUM.

Prof. Dr Shahimi Mohtar expressed his joy and honour at being able to welcome all the students into the UUM big family. The UUM big family is comprised of students who are currently being educated to become holistic, professional students who are prepared to confront the difficulties that lie ahead.

According to him, the learning process at UUM involves great mental and physical stamina in addition to a high level of dedication for it to be sustainable. Furthermore, it requires the ability to adapt to a world that is always changing.

"I would also like to urge students to take advantage of the opportunities available at this university in their quest of excellence, as well as the fact that some degrees are now offered in an online format; thus, they should develop their talents and skills.

UUM has admitted 171 new students for the second semester of the 2022/2023 academic year.

"Furthermore, take advantage of the sophistication of the digital world today, particularly through social media. Utilize all available ways to disseminate accurate and valuable information to all parties, so that each can profit,” he said during the New Student Pledge Ceremony for the Second Semester 2022/2023 Academic Session (A222) at the SOIS Auditorium recently.

Prof. Dr Shahimi Mohtar also advised students to remember and reward the sacrifices made by parents who placed high expectations on their children's success.

At the ceremony, Sergeant Ahmad Saiful Azrin Ahmad Shukri, a student of the Bachelor of Science (Information Technology) programme led the pledge and then presented it to the Registrar, Mr. Ahmad Rasadi Abdullah, in the presence of Prof. Dr Shahimi Mohtar and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed.

For this admission, there are a total of 119 local students and 52 overseas students from countries including Indonesia, China, Yemen, Somalia, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Palestine.

For the record, the total number of UUM students until March 2023 is 32,819, with 26,924 undergraduates and 5,895 graduate students.
