4,067 NEW STUDENTS BEGIN THEIR JOURNEY AT UUM

L 4067UUM ONLINE: 4,067 new students registered for the 2022/2023 academic session yesterday, which will be conducted fully face-to-face, hence starting their new journey as Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) on-campus students.

They include candidates from Malaysian Higher School Certificate(STPM), Diploma, Matriculation, UUM Foundation in Management Programme,  Malaysian Higher Religious Certificate (STAM) and international students who have been accepted into 47 full-time bachelor's programmes for the 2022/2023 academic session.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah said, 3,960 of the total students enrolled are Malaysian citizens, while the remainder 205 are international students, with 2,995 of them are female and 1,072 of whom are male.

He further added the fresh intake of students also included 2,236 students from the B40 group, making up 59.49 per cent of the total admission.

"Apart from that, we also offered places to 205 international students from eight countries, which indicates an increase in enrollment by 13.97 percent as compared to 93 students in the previous session.

"This in a way indicates the success of the internationalisation agenda in Phase 1 of the Strategic Planning with UUM now being listed in the Asia and World rankings," said Haim at the press conference held in conjunction with the 2022/2023 Session Orientation Week at the Student Lounge, Petronas Residential Hall, this morning.

He also stated that 134 international students will continue their studies at the bachelor's degree level, 35 will partake in mobility programmes, and 36 students from UMP, Indonesia, will pursue double degrees.

According to Haim Hilman, three programmes obtained the highest admission: Bachelor of Accounting (272), Bachelor of Business Management (270), and Bachelor of Science in Economics (260).

Meanwhile, three other programmes namely Bachelor of Accounting, Bachelor of Law, and Bachelor of Accounting (Information System) recorded the highest cumulative grade point average (CGPA) for admission of 4.00.

The CGPA requirement for student intake is 3.56, this year.

Not marginalising them from the national education system, UUM has accepted ten students with special needs and eight Orang Asli from Pahang (4), Perak (3), and Negeri Sembilan (1).

Haim Hilman also reassured the students that the university community will provide them with a conducive and comfortable environment so that they will continue their studies at UUM with ease.

As of October 2022, UUM has 33,658 registered students, including 27,732 undergraduates and 5,926 postgraduates.
